The Repowering InfoCentre is a nationwide service provider for administrative districts and municipalities.

The development of renewable energy sources has become an increasingly important issue in Germany – particularly at municipal level. More and more municipalities and regions are setting themselves the target of completely switching their energy supplies over to renewable energy sources in the medium to long term. Particular emphasis is being accorded to wind power here.

In this context, the replacement of older wind turbines with new, high-performance turbines – a process referred to as 'repowering' – represents a major opportunity for cities, towns and municipalities not just in the area of energy supply and the associated creation of jobs, but also in the area of overall development planning. Repowering can be used to better integrate wind-power sites into the overall planning of residential settlements in municipalities. In this way, the number of wind turbines can be reduced, or wind turbines that are scattered throughout a given municipal area to a certain extent can be concentrated at another location – meaning that municipal planning and development can be given a new direction.
